Inter-Cultural Marriages

I have been extremely fortunate to grow up in a place in the world where cultural diversity thrives and people can express their identity through religion, race, cultural practices, sexual orientation and differing beliefs and values. Not only can these be expressed in New Zealand, but they can be celebrated. I truly believe that variety is the spice of life; in that diversity – a representation from different perspectives - forges learning, growth, understanding and peace.

I acknowledge how beautifully different cultures can be uniquely celebrated through marriage. Though also acknowledge it can be difficult to embrace two distinct cultures respectfully during a marriage. Particularly because in a lot of cultures, a marriage is a time when rituals, tradition, and religion play a significant role - often more than any other life event. To navigate this process requires respect, trust, open caring communication, and often a degree of compromised from both cultures, so that each culture is represented in a way that is respectful and considerate to the customs and values of religion, identity, or nationality.

I have a particular interest in helping couples to discern what level and depth they would like to integrate different cultural practices in their wedding day and how this can be done to suit the expectations of each couple and their families.
